Taking this article to be a continuation of the previously published article entitled "Eating for Hair Health" understanding the diet based causes of hair-loss is a perfect weapon in one’s fight to prevent hair-loss from re-occurring in the future. Since it is apparent that much more than being genetically predisposed to hair-loss can cause one to suffer from it, taking into consideration the aspects of improper nutrition and diet that create or augment the problem is essential. Hair-loss can be managed if one take’s the proper steps toward implementing a nutrition or diet regimen equipped with all the antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins needed to help solve the problem. First, however, you must know what those specific vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants are.
Hair-loss again, yes, is caused by DHT, and much of what contributes to high DHT levels in the body come from poor nutrition and bad diets that are excessively high in sugar, bad fats, and high in salt. So out of the healthy fruits and vegetables to choose, which one’s are the most equipped to help remedy the problem of hair loss, well here are a few:
Nutrients that Help Hair-loss
Foods High in Quercetin:
Onions, green tea, strawberries, broccoli, grapes, and oranges and all the other citrus fruits are highly charged with both quercetin and vitamin c. Quercetin is a very strong antioxidant that works alongside Vitamin C to both create collagen in the body and help lower cholesterol. Green Tea is an exceptionally high source of quercetin. Yerba mate, another herbal tea, is also very good source of quercetin. Quercetin can also be found in almost all of our leafy green vegetables. With regular consumption of quercetin we not only increase the likelihood of managing our weight and growing healthier hair, we also have a greater chance of strengthening our immune system.
Foods High in Potassium:
Bananas, potatoes, whole grains, almost all of our fruits and vegetables provide us with an ample supply of both potassium and magnesium, which will help increase circulation in the body: to skin and especially to the scalp. High potassium foods, by increasing healthy oxygen uptake and flow throughout the body, help to ensure that less dht will have the opportunity to accumulate in those specific areas, (as dht can be a problem in other areas of the body as well) since many of the bad skin or bad hair growth areas suffer from oxygen-deprivation and poor blood supply.
Foods High in Vitamin K:
Although foods high in vitamin k are very rarely talked about, vitamin k is also very very good for blood circulation and arterial health. Vitamin K helps heal and maintain the integrity of your veins and arteries, and also helps to prevent unnecessary blood clotting, thereby reducing your chances of having clogged arteries. Vitamin K is definitely another good agent of circulation and will definitely increase circulation in those areas that are suffering from hair-loss. Asparagus, broccoli, spinach, cabbage, you name them--all the leafy greens will help to ensure that your body has a higher amount of vitamin K.
Remember, increasing healthy foods high in omega 3 and 9 (Fish, Oils, Olive Oil, and Avocado Oil) are also exceptionally helpful. There are a number of different paths to take in your journey to win your hair back, many have chosen this same path (of holistic health) by changing their diet and lifestyle and have won hands down. There’s nothing but certainty here that you can do the same.
